Sell your Zenith in Switzerland
More than 25 dealers value your watch. You receive the best offer within 12 hours, free and without obligation.
Describe your Zenith in three minutes.
Selling a Zenith in Switzerland works best through a buyer who compares bids from several specialist dealers, because demand concentrates on particular references. Value depends on the collection, the calibre and above all the El Primero, plus the reference, condition and completeness. Chronomaster and El Primero are the sought-after lines, while Defy and Pilot each have their own audience.
Uhrenkontor is a platform of Solidas GmbH, entered in the commercial register of the canton of Schwyz with its registered office in Schindellegi SZ. Over 25 partner dealers across Switzerland assess your Zenith from watch data and photos; your contact details stay with Uhrenkontor. On working days the highest bid reaches you within 12 hours as a binding offer, free of charge, without obligation and valid for several days.
What determines the value of a Zenith?
The El Primero and its history since 1969
Zenith presented the El Primero in 1969, one of the first automatic chronograph movements with an integrated construction. During the quartz crisis production was to be halted and the tooling destroyed; an employee hid the plans and tools, so that the calibre could later be taken up again. That history and the long production run make the El Primero the core of the brand: models with this calibre are assessed differently on the secondary market from Zenith watches with Elite or supplied movements.
High frequency at 36,000 vibrations per hour
The El Primero runs at 36,000 vibrations per hour, or 5 Hz, and can therefore measure tenths of a second; most mechanical chronographs run at 28,800. That high frequency puts more strain on the movement, which is why dealers look closely at the service history and the rate values. A service before the sale is not necessary, but service records from Zenith are a plus.
Reference, generation and originality
With Zenith the reference counts: vintage models such as the A386 of 1969, the Chronomaster watches of the 1990s and 2000s, and the current Chronomaster Sport and Original are all assessed separately. On older watches, dealers check whether dial, hands, bezel and movement are original. Replaced parts and heavily polished cases reduce the bid, whereas unrestored pieces with patina are preferred by collectors.
Material, completeness and remaining warranty
Steel is the most common execution, while gold, titanium and ceramic are assessed separately. The full set comprises the original box, warranty card, manual and purchase receipt, and for limited editions the numbered certificate as well. Without papers a purchase remains possible, but the inspection at handover becomes more detailed.
Which Zenith models are most in demand?
The Chronomaster is the most traded line. The Chronomaster Sport of 2021 with its ceramic bezel and tenth-of-a-second scale, and the Chronomaster Original in the style of the A386, are currently the most sought-after references.
The El Primero line covers the classic chronographs with their tricolour subdials, the anniversary editions and the vintage references. Early pieces from 1969 onwards are collectors' items whose value depends strongly on originality and documentation.
The Defy is the modern, angular line with skeletonised movements. The Defy Classic, the Defy El Primero 21 with its hundredth-of-a-second chronograph and the Defy Skyline are in demand. Titanium and ceramic cases and limited colour variants are assessed separately.
The Pilot goes back to the brand's aviation watches; Zenith holds the rights to the word "Pilot" on a dial. The vintage-flavoured models up to 2022 and the redesigned Pilot collection of 2023 with Big Date Flyback in steel or ceramic appeal to different buyers.
How selling your Zenith works
- Fill in the form: In around 3 minutes you enter model, reference, calibre, condition and completeness and upload photos, including one of the movement if the watch has a display back.
- Valuation by over 25 partner dealers: Dealers only ever see watch data and photos, never your contact details. On working days the highest bid reaches you within 12 hours as a binding offer.
- Decide without pressure: The offer is valid for several days, free of charge and without obligation. It applies subject to condition, authenticity and completeness matching your description.
- Handover in person and payment: Handover anywhere in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, for example at a bank branch, a notary's office, your workplace or your home. After the check, payment follows in cash, by bank transfer or by Twint. Where something differs, you receive an adjusted offer at no cost.
How to recognise a reputable buyer
A reputable buyer states the validity of the offer, the inspection procedure and the payment route before you meet. With a Zenith they distinguish between El Primero models, Elite movements and supplied calibres, and assess vintage references by originality rather than by shine.
Check the company: a commercial register entry, a legal notice and a contactable address are the minimum standard. Anyone working through anonymous listings, building time pressure or asking you to send the watch in advance "for inspection" should not be trusted.
Pay attention to the payment route. Payment should be traceable and documented: in cash against a signed receipt and purchase contract, by bank transfer or by Twint. A handover at a bank branch or a notary's office protects both sides.
A comparison of the selling routes and further checks is set out in the guide to selling a watch in Switzerland and under how it works.

Selling a Zenith.
Can I sell my Zenith without box and papers?
Yes, Uhrenkontor buys Zenith watches without box and papers. The partner dealers check reference, serial number and movement from the photos and at handover. Warranty card, original box and, for limited editions, the numbered certificate make resale easier and are normally rated higher by dealers.
Should I have the El Primero overhauled before selling?
No, a service before the sale is not necessary. Uhrenkontor also buys Zenith watches that are due for servicing, and the dealers take condition into account in their bid. Because the El Primero runs at a high frequency, existing service records from Zenith are a plus and should be included.
Do you buy vintage Zenith such as the A386 and limited editions?
Yes, vintage El Primero chronographs from 1969 onwards, older Chronomaster models and limited editions are purchased. With vintage watches the originality of dial, hands and movement counts, along with the documentation; with limited runs the numbering and certificate. Describe what you know about origin and service history in the form.
How quickly do I receive an offer for my Zenith?
On working days you receive the highest bid from the over 25 partner dealers within 12 hours as a binding offer. It is valid for several days, free of charge and without obligation, and applies subject to condition, authenticity and completeness matching the description at handover.
What makes the El Primero special and why do dealers ask about it?
The El Primero of 1969 is an automatic chronograph movement running at 36,000 vibrations per hour that can measure tenths of a second. It is still built today and shapes the brand's reputation. Dealers separate El Primero models from Zenith watches with Elite or supplied movements, because demand and servicing needs differ. State the calibre in the form.
Do I have to pay tax on the proceeds of my Zenith?
Capital gains on movable private assets are generally tax-free in Switzerland. It is different where the tax authority assumes commercial dealing, for example with frequent buying and selling. This is not legal or tax advice; if in doubt, ask your cantonal tax office or a fiduciary.
Why is the buying price for my Zenith lower than the prices on Chrono24?
Chrono24 shows asking prices, not achieved selling prices. Zenith listings range from vintage chronographs to current El Primero models across many generations, so they are only partly comparable. With older watches, condition and originality also come into play. A dealer who buys ties up capital, checks the watch, carries warranty and price risk, and needs a margin.
Why listing prices on Chrono24, Ricardo or Tutti sit above the buying price
