Which brand is your watch?

We buy watches across Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

An Audemars Piguet is best sold in Switzerland through a buyer who lets several specialist dealers bid and names the highest bid as a binding offer. Reference, metal, completeness of the papers and the state of the case decide the sum. On a Royal Oak, unpolished edges and a bracelet without slack count for a great deal.

Uhrenkontor is a purchasing platform run by Solidas GmbH, entered in the commercial register of the canton of Schwyz with its registered office in Schindellegi SZ. Over 25 partner dealers across Switzerland assess every Audemars Piguet submitted, working from watch data and photographs. The best bid is passed on as a binding offer within 12 hours on working days; it is free, without obligation and valid for several days. Dealers never receive your contact details.

What determines the value of an Audemars Piguet?

Reference, generation and calibre

The reference number states model, metal and bracelet, for example 16202ST.OO.1240ST.01 for the Royal Oak Jumbo in steel on a steel bracelet. The generation is decisive: the 16202ST introduced in 2022 with the new calibre 7121 replaced the 15202ST, and the 15510ST with calibre 4302 replaced the 15500ST. Watches that look alike can therefore be valued quite differently.

Box, warranty card and invoice

A full set comprises the watch, the original box, the warranty card or certificate bearing the serial number, the booklets and any spare bracelet links. The card documents date of sale and authorised dealer and is the single most important document for the trade. Watches without papers are bought; the authenticity check is simply more thorough.

Condition and case finishing

On the Royal Oak, the brushed surfaces and polished bevels of case and bracelet are the central quality feature. A proper service at Audemars Piguet restores these surfaces; unskilled polishing rounds the edges permanently and reduces demand. Bracelet stretch and the state of the clasp are assessed in the same way.

Demand for the model and configuration

The Royal Oak dominates demand for the brand, and steel models with a blue or black dial are the quickest to place. The Royal Oak Offshore has its own following and the Code 11.59 a smaller one. Limited editions and models in precious metal or ceramic are sought by specialist dealers.

Which Audemars Piguet models are most in demand?

The Royal Oak has defined the brand since 1972, with its octagonal bezel, exposed screws and integrated bracelet. The Jumbo 16202ST at 39 mm and extra-flat, its predecessor the 15202ST, and the 41 mm models 15510ST and 15500ST are the most sought-after references.

Smaller Royal Oak sizes are wanted too. The 37 mm reference 15450ST and the 34 mm models suit narrower wrists and have their own steady demand. The Royal Oak Chronograph 26240ST with calibre 4401 and the rose gold versions round out the collection.

The Royal Oak Offshore has been the larger, sportier variant since 1993. The 42 mm chronographs of the 26470 family, the 26238 introduced in 2021 with calibre 4401 and the Diver models are the references that matter most here.

The Code 11.59 arrived in 2019 as a separate line with a round case on an octagonal middle section. The Selfwinding models and the chronograph are bought, though demand is lower than for the Royal Oak.

The Royal Oak Concept has been the technical spearhead since 2002, with tourbillons and unusual case materials. These watches are rare and are assessed individually by specialist dealers; complete documentation is a precondition.

Older Royal Oak references and ladies models with factory-set diamonds are assessed one by one. Retro-fitted stones or replaced parts reduce demand, so it is worth declaring any such change in the form.

How selling your Audemars Piguet works

  1. Fill in the form: reference, year, condition and what is included, with at least three photographs, one of them showing the case back. It takes about three minutes.
  2. Receive your offer: over 25 partner dealers assess the watch; the highest bid reaches you as a binding offer within 12 hours on working days and stays valid for several days.
  3. Hand the watch over in person: anywhere in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, at a bank branch, a notary's office, your workplace or your home. Condition, authenticity and completeness are checked there; if anything differs from the description, an adjusted offer follows at no cost.
  4. Payment: in cash, by bank transfer or by Twint, as you prefer.

How to recognise a reputable buyer

A reputable buyer names a figure, not a range. Two generations of the same Royal Oak can sit far apart, so only a stated sum with a validity period can sensibly be compared with other offers.

The company behind the offer can be checked. Uhrenkontor is operated by Solidas GmbH, entered in the commercial register of the canton of Schwyz with its registered office in Schindellegi. Legal form, domicile and authorised signatories are visible in the Swiss company index Zefix.

Discretion is a given. At Uhrenkontor dealers see watch data and photographs only, never your contact details. There is no shop; the handover takes place where you choose.

A reputable buyer applies no time pressure. Several days of validity leave room to compare the offer with others. There is more on this in the guide to selling a watch in Switzerland and on How it works.

Frequently asked

Selling a Audemars Piguet.

Do you buy an Audemars Piguet without box and papers?

Yes, an Audemars Piguet without box and warranty card is bought. The partner dealers then examine serial number, movement and the characteristic case finishing particularly carefully. A full set usually attracts a higher bid. Service records from the manufacture or an old purchase invoice help the assessment.

What belongs to a full set with an Audemars Piguet?

A full set comprises the watch, the original box with its outer carton, the warranty card or certificate bearing the serial number, the booklets and any spare bracelet links. On models with interchangeable straps, the additional straps and the tool belong with it. Invoice and service records complete the set.

Is it worth servicing or polishing the watch before selling?

No, and certainly not polishing outside the manufacture. The brushed surfaces and polished bevels of a Royal Oak can only be restored properly; unskilled polishing lowers demand permanently. A service is rarely recovered in full on sale either. Dealers price servicing needs into their bids.

Do you buy vintage and gold Royal Oak models?

Yes. Older Royal Oak references, models in rose gold, yellow gold, platinum or ceramic, and ladies models at 34 and 37 mm are bought, including versions with factory-set diamonds. Retro-fitted stones or replaced parts lower demand, so please declare such changes in the form.

How quickly do I receive an offer for my Audemars Piguet?

On working days the binding offer reaches you within 12 hours of submitting the form. Over 25 partner dealers place a bid and the highest is passed on to you. The offer is valid for several days, free of charge and without obligation, so you can decide without pressure.

Is selling an Audemars Piguet in Switzerland taxable?

Selling a privately owned watch in Switzerland is generally tax-free. Gains on the disposal of movable private assets are as a rule subject neither to income tax nor to a capital gains tax. Commercial dealing with frequent purchases and sales is the exception. This is not tax advice; your cantonal tax administration can help.

Why is the buying price for my Audemars Piguet lower than on Chrono24?

Chrono24 shows what sellers ask, not what is actually paid. With Audemars Piguet, asking prices differ widely between collections, and even individual Royal Oak references vary considerably. That is why the exact reference matters. When buying, a dealer ties up capital, checks the watch, carries warranty, marketing and price risk, and needs a margin.

Why listing prices on Chrono24, Ricardo or Tutti sit above the buying price
