Understanding prices
Listing priceis not What dealers pay.
On Chrono24, Ricardo or Tutti you see what sellers ask. What dealers actually pay only shows in real bids. That is exactly what we get for you.
The four prices of a watchFrequently asked
What sellers want to know.
How quickly do I receive an offer?
Within 12 hours on working days. Once you submit the form your watch goes to our partner dealers, and as soon as their bids are in you receive the highest one by WhatsApp or email, whichever you chose.
What does the service cost?
Nothing. The enquiry, the valuation and the offer are free and without obligation. Uhrenkontor earns from trading watches, not from fees charged to sellers.
Do I have to post my watch?
No. The handover happens in person in Switzerland, at a place you choose: a bank branch, a notary, your office or your home. Your watch stays with you until payment is confirmed.
How am I paid?
In cash, by bank transfer or by Twint, at the handover once the watch has been checked. You choose. With cash you count the amount on the spot; in a bank branch you can deposit it straight away or see a transfer arrive. You receive a purchase contract and a receipt.
Can I sell without box and papers?
Yes. A missing box or warranty card affects the price but is never a reason to decline. What matters is that you own the watch and that it is genuine.
Is my data safe with the dealers?
Dealers only ever see watch data and photos. Your name, address, telephone number and email are never passed on. Contact runs through Uhrenkontor alone.
Show all questions
How is the offer put together?
More than 25 partner dealers in Switzerland receive the description and photos of your watch, anonymised and without your contact details. Each places a bid. You receive the highest one as a binding offer.
What if the condition differs at handover?
The offer stands provided condition, authenticity and completeness match your description. If something differs we make a revised offer on the spot. You may accept or decline it, and it costs you nothing either way.
Why is the offer below the prices on Chrono24 or Ricardo?
Because a listing price and a dealer's buying price are two different prices. A listing shows what a seller is asking. Buyers may pay less, and selling costs come off that. A dealer pays at once, handles inspection and marketing and carries tied-up capital and price risk until resale. The offer shows what the dealer can bindingly pay today on that basis.
Which brands do you buy?
Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Omega, Cartier, Vacheron Constantin, A. Lange & Söhne, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Breguet, Hublot, Richard Mille, Tudor, Breitling, Panerai, Zenith and comparable manufacturers. Watches below roughly CHF 3,000 are outside our range.
Do you buy watches needing a service, or vintage pieces?
Yes. A watch that no longer runs is not a reason to decline, it is simply valued differently. Older references are often sought after; please mention any known faults when you describe the watch.
How is this different from listing on Ricardo, Tutti or Chrono24?
With a listing you sell the watch yourself: photos, enquiries, negotiating and the handover or shipping are down to you, and depending on the platform there are fees. Here more than 25 dealers bid on your watch, you see only the highest offer, and nothing about you becomes public.
How do I recognise a reputable buyer?
A serious offer names a specific amount rather than a range, states how long it is valid, and applies no time pressure. The company should be verifiable in the commercial register, and discretion should be a matter of course rather than an extra.
Is selling a watch taxable in Switzerland?
Capital gains on movable private assets are generally tax-free in Switzerland. The exception is commercial dealing, where sales are treated as income. This is general information, not tax advice; ask your tax adviser about your own situation.
Can I trade my watch in instead of selling it?
Yes. You can offset your watch against one from our own stock. Tell us which model you are looking for and we will let you know when it arrives.
